We’re bringing the best of Tasmania to you at VIN Diemen, but it’s still just a small taste of the real thing. It’s why we’re giving you the chance to win a trip for two to the Gourmet Isle to experience it for yourself.

It’s easy to enter – every time you purchase a ticket via the VIN Diemen website, you will be asked to answer this question: –

“In 25 words or less, tell us your favourite Tasmanian food & wine match and why?”

An independent panel will select the most creative answer! Full terms and conditions coming shortly.

The Food

By | FOOD, UPDATES | No Comments

Picture pink, glistening sides of Huon Salmon resting on ice; a tower of washed-rind cheeses from Bruny Island Cheese Co… Think Nichols Ethical Free Range chicken served in tacos, or as wasabi-buttermilk wings, spoonfuls of thick Meander Valley Dairy double cream or Robur Farm spreadable chevre, and fresh Shima Wasabi from the Tasmanian Food Co.

This is just a small preview into the food offering at VIN Diemen – a true taste of Tasmania. Produce from the Island State is among the best in the world, and it’s time to show it off.

Tasmania produces some fine drinks too. There will be more than 100 wines from the island’s producers, from sensational sparkling to powerful Pinot Noir. In addition to all the wine, Hartshorn Distillery will be there with its range of sheep whey spirits, Strait Brands will showcase its Tasmanian Pepperberry Vodka, Hazelnut Gin and Tasmania’s first Sloe Gin, the Abel Gin Co. will be introducing its Essence and Quintessence gins and there will also be the Willie Smith’s range of organic apple ciders.

All tastings are included in the ticket price, so soak up Tasmania by trying it all. There’ll be produce you can buy to take home, too, to keep those VIN Diemen vibes flowing for much, much longer.

VIP offering

Want to really put some fizz into your VIN Diemen experience? Then grab a VIP ticket.

A VIP ticket means you’ll be given a sneak peak of the event an hour earlier than everyone else. This means unfettered access to food and wine tastings, and a chance to really talk to the producers and hear their stories.

You’ll be given a glass of Tasmanian sparkling wine on arrival, just to get you into the spirit of the day and we’ll also throw in a food voucher.

The best part of the VIP ticket though is the ‘School of Indulgence’. One of our food and wine experts will guide you through the preparation and tasting of some exclusive food samples, matched with some of VIN Diemen’s hero wines.

All this, plus a beautiful Plumm wineglass which is yours to keep, and all the day’s wine and food samples – none of those pesky tokens.

The Wine

Tasmania is a single wine region, but there are significant differences around the island, and seven distinct wine growing areas.

There’s the Tamar Valley (the oldest and largest Tasmanian wine region), Pipers River (north-east of Launceston), the East Coast, the North West, and the Huon/Channel, Derwent and Coal River Valleys in the South.

The cool climate grape varieties most commonly grown in Tasmania include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling. But there’s even a little bit of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz tucked away! Most of the State’s Chardonnay and a third of its Pinot grapes are made into sparkling wine – a third of Tasmania’s total production.

These are truly cool climate styles with Tasmania being the coolest region in Australia.

A good proportion of wineries from all over Tasmania will be represented at VIN Diemen, so you can try as many as you like and get a feel for the varieties that you like the best. The full wine list will be released soon, but know that Barringwood, Bay of Fires, House of Arras, Bream Creek Vineyard, Jansz, Pipers Brook, Josef Chromy, Tolpuddle and more will all be there. View the full list of producers at each of the cities on each page.
